The approval exists. Does it authorize this action?

An approval message can look reassuring while leaving the key question unresolved: what, exactly, was approved? Imagine a fictional payment workflow in which a reviewer approved an invoice match. The assistant later describes the payment as approved for release. The words sound close. The decisions are different.

For your next review, ask someone to connect the approval to a specific object, operation, identity and time. Then change one material fact in a synthetic test, such as the intended recipient. What does the workflow require now? The point is to discover the boundary, not assume that a generic approval flag covers every later action.

Victoroff’s public PAY-88219 example makes a related distinction: tool capability does not expand a delegation. The synthetic agent can place a hold but cannot release the payment under its recorded authority. Read the sources rather than relying on the conversational answer alone.

Take into your next meeting: “Show us the record that establishes authority for this exact operation, and the record that shows what actually happened.” If either record is missing, preserve the question as an evidence gap.
